Oliseh confirms Akas as captain of CHAN Eagles

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has confirmed that Chima Akas will captain the team at the 2016 African Nations Championship, which kicks off next week.
Warri Wolves striker, Gbolahan Salami, was the skipper of the side during the qualifiers, but has been left out of the squad, as he is close to joining an unnamed European club.

Terror threat: Spain’s Minister insists El Clasico will not be suspended

Spain’s Interior Minister, Jorge Fernández Diaz, has stated that Saturday’s clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona will not be called off.
The first Clasico of the season is expected to go ahead at the Santiago Bernabeu, but security will be heightened following the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.

Balotelli set for op on troublesome groin: report

AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli has suffered a setback in his fight to regain fitness with reports claiming he may require surgery to repair a troublesome groin injury.

Balotelli, who has made only four appearances since re-joining Milan on loan from Liverpool earlier this season, has been sidelined for over a month with the problem and travelled to Denmark on Monday for a consultation with a leading specialist, Professor Per Holmich.

Champagne confirms FIFA presidency bid

Former French diplomat Jerome Champagne on Friday officially entered the running to succeed Sepp Blatter as president of football’s scandal-hit governing body FIFA.

“I have submitted my candidacy and have the support of five member states (of FIFA),” the 57-year-old Champagne told AFP.
The former deputy general secretary of FIFA is the fourth official candidate for the election, which is scheduled to take place on February 26.
